COFFEE, FRIEND OR FOE?
Ask most people these days about their morning caffeine hit and its likely to be the same answer. I couldn’t function without it. But what does science say about our daily coffee fix? Well ladies and gentlemen (especially the guys and girls that like a hit before a gym session, its good news) Oh yes, science boffs. We salute you. NUTRIENTS COME A PLENTY IN OUR DARK BREW Can you believe that people eating a traditional western diet can achieve getting their daily amount of antioxidants from coffee rather than fruit and vegetables. Now im not saying that i would tell people to consume 10 cups a day and none of the good stuff but thats impressive none the less. Below is what a single cup of coffee can contain: Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): 11% of the RDA. Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid): 6% of the RDA. Vitamin B1 (Thiamin): 2% of the RDA. Vitamin B3 (Niacin): 2% of the RDA. Folate: 1% of the RDA. Manganese: 3% of the RDA. Potassium: 3% of the RDA. Magnesium: 2% of the RDA. Phosphorus: 1% of the RDA. BURN BABY BURN So you feel like hitting the gym but you feel tired? Dont want to take pre workouts that make you feel you have just taken a hit of speed with a turbo charger on it? Then drink a cup of coffee. Coffee contains a stimulant that inhibits tiredness and makes you more alert and comes without the terrible come down of pre workout drinks. So hitting that 100 kg squat may just become a little easier. Coffee will also have the potential by increasing calories burned by up to 11 %. Now that is a bonus for anyone wanting to shifty more weight. DIABETES? NO THANKS, ILL HAVE A COFFEE So drinking coffee can actually reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes by up to 67 %. There have a few studies to back this up, so next time you reach for that cupcake grab the Nescafe jar too. ITS NOT ALL GOOD THOUGH Like the bearer of bad news that i am its not all bells and whistles for the super drink. Caffeine can have a serious effect on sleep patterns if being consumed at times when sleep is needed. So may i suggest if you are about to cuddle up to a loved one who snores, you will regret it. I would also advise not to perform open heart surgery after having a shed load of caffeine. It can cause jittery reflexes and anxiety. So anyone with this condition is advised to limit the amount you consume.
